Hello 2/3 Families,

Have you seen our tipis? In groups, students have created tribes, looking at the different roles needed to function in a community. Each group has been working on a tipi, puzzling through how to get it to stay standing and using symbols to decorate the covering. Make sure you come upstairs to see them!

Thursday morning, April shared with students about Salish culture and her experiences growing up as a descendent of Chief Charlo. In the afternoon, Jairo taught the students about indigenous people from Colombia. Thank you April and Jairo!

On Tuesday, October 15, we will go to the Missoula Art Museum to learn about indigenous cultures through art. If you are interested in coming with us for the afternoon, please let one of the 2/3 teachers know.

Spanish homework will begin next week. The focus is on conventions, so we would appreciate it if you help your child check for:

  • Capital letters
  • punctuation
  • clear handwriting
  • ‘finger spaces’ between words

In English, students have been practicing how to ask questions and answer questions to develop their understanding of a text. Their homework will follow this pattern.

Each week, students should be reading on a daily basis. They can read independently or with someone else. In response to the book they have read, students will answer six questions about their book. The questions are who, what, when, where, why and how. On Monday, they will bring home a homework packet for the month of October. Each week, they will do one graphic organizer page that follows this format. Their packet will also have an example we completed in class as well as a list of helpful words.

This week, students finished the first math unit! They developed problem solving skills, learned related math games and reviewed helpful skills.

Math homework will begin next week. Math homework comes home Monday – Thursday and is due the following day. Typically, it is one page each night. If there is a test, students will not bring math homework that evening. Please contact the classroom teachers if you have any questions at all!
